NBBI serves as a roadmap to harness NBBI is a strategic document outlining the future
behavioural science to improve health of BI in health for Malaysia. The NBBI aligns with
outcomes by sustainably integrating the priorities of the WHO Resolution on
BI into the development of Behavioural Sciences for Better Health and the
behaviourally-informed health Malaysia Health White Paper, including the
policies and practices, aiming for a recognition of the whole-of-government and
better and more equitable health whole-of-society approaches to addressing
                                                          economic, environmental, and social determinants
                          ecosystem. of health.

                              Our Vision: Our Mission:
To establish Malaysia as a To use insights from behavioural
international leader in integrating science to enhance health policies and
behavioural science into the planning, programmes in Malaysia, resulting in
design, and evaluation of health improved health outcomes, greater
initiatives for a better health ecosystem, efficiencies, equity, and optimised public
driving impactful and equitable health well-being through shared ownership
outcomes. by the whole of society.

The overarching purpose of the NBBI is to integrate BI into health-related policies and practices to
catalyse structural support and drive sustainable behaviour change for better health. This
integration must be supported by a well-trained workforce, heightened public awareness, ongoing
research and innovation, systematic monitoring and evaluation, and robust public advocacy
and collaboration efforts. It specifically aligns with the WHO Resolution's call for a holistic
approach, emphasising the importance of understanding and influencing individual and
community behaviours to support and promote better health practices (6). The NBBI outlines
six key priority areas, aimed at providing a comprehensive framework for advancing
behavioural science in the context of health, across a holistic health spectrum from preventive
health, disease and clinical management to health service delivery.
