Health education should begin at a young age. Health literacy needs to be taught to students
and the younger generation to instill a love for healthy lifestyle practices for well-being.
ENHANCING HEALTH Health literacy can be incorporated into the curriculum and co-curricular activities. Both public
and private sectors can contribute and collaborate in such initiatives with the support and
LITERACY COMPETENCIES commitment of the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Higher Education.

The young generation who are proficient in accessing health information and possess good health
literacy skills are moving towards a healthy and quality life. These skills enable them to research
thoroughly and understand the information obtained, distinguish facts from opinions, and identify
reliable sources.
Understanding health information is the next important step for the youth. With this skill, they can
interpret and organize the information in an easily understandable manner.
The skill of evaluating health information allows the youth to filter and assess the credibility and
relevance of the information obtained. With this skill, the youth can make wise decisions about the
steps to be taken based on the information they receive.
The skill of making wise decisions in the context of health is crucial. Youth who are proficient in health
literacy can assess the risks and benefits of various options, as well as consider their personal values
and health priorities towards fostering a healthy and sustainable lifestyle.
